UFC 265 on ESPN+ (8/7/21): How to Watch Lewis vs. Gane | Start time, Live stream PPV. For the first time since March, a heavyweight title fight will take place as the headliner for a stacked UFC Pay-Per-View in Houston. It will be for an interim title though, as “The Black Beast” Derrick Lewis gets set to go one-on-one with Cyril Gane.
The current champion, Franics Ngannou, was not booked for the fight, which has garnered some criticism from experts and fans alike. However, that only means a Champion vs. Champion match is in the cards down the line.
For now, Lewis comes back to his hometown as the favorite in the bout. The no. 2 Heavyweight fighter in UFC is looking to make due in his second title bout after losing to Daniel Cormier back at UFC 230 in 2018. He holds a career record of 25-7, with 20 of those victories coming by knockout. He also holds the most knockouts in the heavyweight division with 12. Two of his last four wins have come by KO.
Gane is walking into his first UFC PPV main event. When made his UFC debut back in 2019, he only had a 3-0 record. Now, he is 9-0, and is the no. 3 fighter in UFC’s Heavyweight division. Six of his victories have been by knockout or submission for the Frenchman.

With UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou unable to face his next opponent until September, the UFC decided it did not want to wait that long for a fight between Ngannou and No. 2 ranked UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis. With that, the promotion decided to book Lewis opposite the No. 3 ranked Ciryl Gane for an interim title fight. That bout headlines Saturday’s UFC 265 pay-per-view card.
For Lewis, who calls Houston home, this is his second shot at UFC gold. He lost his first UFC title fight when Daniel Cormier, who held the title at the time, made quick work of Lewis when he submitted him in the second round. Lewis is coming off a knockout win over Curtis Blaydes and has won his past four outings.
Gane is 9-0 in his MMA career. He joined the UFC in August 2019 with a record of 3-0. His first fight with the promotion was a first-round submission win over Raphael Pessoa The French fighter is coming off a June decision win over Alexander Volkov. He has the longest active winning streak in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

Rafael Fiziev is a young star on the rise and he would rather grab this opportunity for himself than just be a stepping stone for a gatekeeper.
